MAP Testing

M.A.P. Testing (Measures of Academic Progress):

GSW HS will be implementing a testing schedule for our M.A.P. testing dates.   The schedule is utilized so that we can maintain a smooth, educational flow so that each student can make it to each class on every day.   The schedule is below.   Some information about the M.A.P. test is also found below.

When students are scheduled to test, they must be in the proper location by 8:00 am.   If students are not scheduled to test, then they would not have to be at school until 9:00 am.   Bus times will be as normal.  If a student arrives to school and is not testing, they will either report to the gym or to a study hall.

M.A.P. testing:

Freshman, Sophomore and Juniors will be tested in math, reading and language usage.  This is the 1st such test this year with a total of 3 different testing sessions.   These tests are tailored to an individual’s current achievement level.  This gives each student a fair opportunity to show what he or she knows and can do.  M.A.P. assessments have the computer adjust the difficulty of the questions so that each student takes a unique test.

What are MAP assessments used for?

Assessments are used to measure your student’s progress or growth in school.  You may have a chart at your home on which you mark your child’s height at certain times.  This is a growth chart.  It shows how much your child has grown from time to time.  MAP assessments do the same sort of thing, except they measure your child’s growth in math, reading and language usage.

How do teachers use the test scores?

The tests allow the teachers to keep track of your progress and growth in basic skills.  It also tells teachers where a student’s strengths are and if help is needed any specific areas.  Teachers use this information to help them guide instruction in the classroom.
